Seven students of the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Complutense University of Madrid yesterday had the privilege of having as teachers for several hours with two master painters: John Genovese and Antonio Lopez.
The two artists gave a lecture to students in the last two years of Fine Arts, outdoors, in the university. The class consisted of Genoa and Lee proposed a topic specifically the street life, and students on a canvas shaped it 20 meters by 2 meters high. Everything was improvised, there was hardly any preparation.
The mural on which students worked was located outside in a bracket mounted on the door of the building of students from the Complutense. Began to work at half past ten, half an hour earlier than planned, to try to avoid the rain. The seven elected interacted with rollers, compressors, spray guns and paint cans and were running their lines as shown in the two painters.
Genoese asked to apprentices who little by little, they were making sketches of what they wanted to paint. López, well wrapped against the cold, said the mural that showed clearly what they really wanted to teach, that translate the forms.
The seven students went to work. The two teachers were directing them. "Fill this empty void", "You better Swing for this part," he pointed to his students. Every twenty minutes, the entire group about 15 meters away to see how the painting was taking shape before the astonished eyes of those who attended the show. Sources
Complutense University students said they worked with Genoa yesterday, and Lopez were selected "because they had already done work as a team and had participated in creating murals on the street." After noon, the mural was finished.
"We have made a sketch of a mural, with all its freshness and without any prior point. It was an experiment, a plastic game," said Genovese, who was "delighted" with the experience. "We have been a real team: students, Antonio and myself. It's very nice to work with young people. There has been a relationship of teacher and student, but face to face," he added.
The mural will be exposed on the exterior of the building of students at the Complutense University for two days. "He was then taken away because the water and rain can cause damage. We are looking for another location within the premises of the university," according to organizers.
The master class of the artists fit within the cultural day held yesterday with the slogan Complutense University Express and included a lecture by José Saramago and Maria Asuncion Mateo, widow of Alberti, banners, display graffiti, live music by singer-songwriters and film projections. The events were organized by the Vice President for Outreach and Dissemination of Culture of the Complutense University and developed in the Moncloa campus and Somosaguas.
The Faculty of Fine Arts Exhibition hosted interactive operations of video art and experimental music, the Botanical Garden hosted an exhibition of graffiti, and the Faculty of Medicine hosted the First Fast Painting Contest University of Madrid, within a comprehensive program.
