almost a decade ago with the First Latin American Beatle Week as a framework, it inked a historic meeting between two living legends of rock. On the one hand, the English singer Tony Sheridan, who knew The Beatles have backing band (!) And on the other Charly Garcia, one of the greatest rock references in English.
The meeting was not scheduled, there was a morning in October 2001 at The Cavern Buenos Aires, where he learned that Sheridan Garcia provided an unscheduled show with an impromptu trio on stage there. "In 15 minutes I am there," said Charly he heard the news from a cell phone.
Minutes later, Sheridan found that the trio had become a foursome. Charly, guitar in hand, began to accompany him. Sheridan looked askance, Garcia kept expecting respect and time. They had not been presented, but began to be understood by a common language. Finally Tony
longer a "OK, lead guitar!". Time Charly was to shoot one that appealed to the veteran and threw himself into the scene. Were little more than two hours. Charly stopped asking. Sheridan caught in the game and started a guitar duel that the audience was delirious.
The highest point of the evening was when Garcia was no longer a stranger to the stage and launched Popotitos intro, to which Sheridan responded with a devastating version of the theme. A while later there was silence, Charly came to the ear Tony and immediately, as if he had asked permission, she started singing "My Bonnie", the theme for which Brian Epstein became interested in The Beatles. The party was complete. Back in the dressing rooms, Charly also was pleased that Julia, the sister of John Lennon, was approached to greet him after he witnessed the entire jam session with Dave Jones owner of The Cavern in Liverpool.
Memories of Tony and Charly
By Cecilia Díaz Moreno
I have many memories of that day was the 10/10/2001. That day was the third presentation of what was "The First Latin American Beatle Week" developed The Cavern Buenos Aires and was invited to perform as a duo with Lorena Ocampo. After playing
sat as a spectator and soon appeared and introduced Lucho Bagó Anthony Esmond Sheridan McGinnity better known as Tony Sheridan. Lucho mispronounced the name of Tony saying McGuiness and corrects it, it's funny because Tony says, "This is the drink" and fighting continued his presentation by saying that the drink has over the Tony (haha).
that day I can tell you that Tony was accompanied by only a bassist (which incidentally is from Argentina and had a strange low Hofner model) and a drummer .... And see how nice voice!
started the show with "All right now." Then he went to the famous "What'd I Say." At a time when Tony played an interesting version of "Yesterday" howling in the middle of a track "I'm sorry Paul." Had previously made a joke version of "Scrambled Eggs" like Paul did recently at the Apollo Theater.
remember sometime in the show I asked my friend Ruben keyboard that I had borrowed. I did not know in the dressing room was Charly García. He took the keyboard but it was very poor and obviously preferred to play the guitar Charly.
played many issues together: My Bonnie, with a solo guitar exactly like Tony who played alongside the Beatles. Charly later joined by the second voice in a beautiful theme "You've got a friend", Carole King theme popularized by James Taylor in 1971.
Then came "Popotitos", a mixture of "La Bamba" along with "Twist and Shout", "Close of the Revolution", etc. Charly advanced topics that would be his next album "Influence" performing "I'm not in love" and "Your vice." Other songs performed: "The day I turned off the light", a version of "In My Life" "Any time at all", "You Can not Do That", "Come Together" and "What you're doing." I think in these versions was not Tony.
but I do not remember Tony eventually became the angry and off stage, leaving the lobby at the door to smoke a cigarette. At that time only I managed to say "please" and I gave my CD to get him to autograph.
After completion of the show I remember going to the chapel of The Cavern, where was Tony, Charlie and other people making all sorts of questions. The next day both went to the studios Circo Beat by Fito Paez and Tony recorded guitars and vocals for the song "I'm not in love "(Charly).
